By Are you a country music fan? You’ll want to check out the special event at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre on Friday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
The theater is presenting “Songwriter City,” billed as “an intimate evening with two of country music’s well-known songwriters. The first is Paul Overstreet, a Songwriter’s Hall of Fame inductee with dozens of top ten and No.1 hit songs.
Some of Overstreet’s hits include “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “When You Say Nothing at All” and “On the Other Hand,” and emerged as Broadcast Music Incorporated’s top country songwriter each year from 1987 until 1991. A gifted singer, he also recorded 11 Top 40 country hits, writing and singing singles such as “Daddy’s Come Around” and “I Won’t Take Less Than Your Love.”
The second songwriting star is Scotty Emerick who wrote No. 1 and top five hit songs with Toby Keith, Willie Nelson and others.
Some of Emerick’s songs recorded by Keith include “I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight” (a duet with Willie Nelson), “Beer for My Horses,” “I Love This Bar,” “Whiskey Girl” and “As Good as I Once Was.” In addition, he also contributed to some of Keith’s Top Five hits namely, “Get Drunk and Be Somebody” and “A Little Too Late.”
In addition, Emerick plays acoustic guitar and sings backup vocals.
