Several Juneteenth Events Planned in Columbia This Weekend

This weekend, there are several events planned in Columbia to celebrate Juneteenth.

On Friday, enjoy the CoMo Juneteenth Kick Off at REDI starting at 5:30 p.m. at 500 E. Walnut suite 102, and a celebration at 5th St. Christian Church at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, join in for the CoMo Juneteenth Parade, with lineup starting at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Broadway and Waugh Street, and the parade beginning at 9 a.m. After the parade, enjoy the Community Fun & Fellowship at Douglass Park. At 3 p.m. Sunday, have fun at the Gospel Extravaganza at the Missouri Theatre and on Monday, enjoy Fellowship in the Park at Douglass Park from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The community can also celebrate from 5-8 p.m.. Saturday or a free Juneteenth celebration at Shelter Gardens. Enjoy food trucks, local black-owned business vendors, live music and poetry, dance performances and all kinds of activities for kids.

From 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sunflower Dreams Lavender Farm is taking part in a Juneteenth Celebration at 701 E. Ash St. This two-day event will have vendors and food trucks to enjoy.

The Missouri Symphony is also planning its third annual Juneteenth Celebration in collaboration with CoMo Juneteenth. Enjoy the inaugural celebration community choir directed by Will Lyons with a diverse range of orchestral and choral selections. Doors open at 2 p.m. Sunday with the event starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $19 for general admission and kids 12 and under are free.
