Robert Ross

Robert Ross retired after serving 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent three of those years in the infantry, and the remaining 17 in public affairs. He was stationed both in the U.S. and in Japan. During his service, Ross was awarded numerous medals: the Meritorius Service medal, Navy Commendation medal, National Defense Service medal and others.

He says the highlight of his military career was serving in the Far East with the Air Force Pacific Broadcasting Squadron (Far East network) providing English language radio and television service to armed forces personnel serving in the Pacific. He cites his time spent aboard a Navy ship in the Mediterranean Sea as one of his most memorable experiences, visiting ports of call including Barcelona, Venice, Athens, Naples and others.

Ross would tell anyone in the younger generation who’s thinking of joining the military to remember this: “People are people everywhere. Treat people with respect and you will be respected.”
