Party With Your Pet
At least once a week, I like to check out the Lizzi & Rocco’s Natural Pet Market Facebook page. The store’s proprietors, Jessica and Kyle Schlosser, keep the page updated with photos of the four-legged patrons that visit the market each day. My favorite photos are the ones from their parties such as the Halloween Bash, Spring Fling and Yappy Hour. Each event usually includes treats for both animals and their humans and sometimes a photographer is on hand to shoot pet photos against themed backdrops or with guests like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
I attended my first Lizzi & Rocco’s bash recently. The Freedom Fest & All-American BBQ was a patriotic party that featured hot dogs, $5 nail trims and a photo fundraiser to benefit Dogs Deserve Better, a national nonprofit group that advocates for chained and penned dogs. Several pups of all sizes and breeds came to the party. I saw a huge, but loveable mastiff begrudgingly getting his photo taken against the red, white and blue backdrop. I also met an adorable Lhasa Apso named Stanley who was there with his foster mom. Stanley is looking for his forever home and even has his own Facebook page: Stanley “Stan the Man” Barker. There was even a cat that was brave enough to show up to the canine-dominated affair. The store’s namesakes, Lizzi (an eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier) and Rocco (a seven-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix), were gracious hosts to all of their guests. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring my pets with me, but I did purchase a rib bone for my dog Maggie and a Savvy Tabby Speedster mouse toy for my cat Mugen.
The parties at Lizzi & Rocco’s are a great chance for Columbia’s dogs and cats and their owners to socialize with each other in fun and creative ways. Upcoming events include an ice cream social (July 19) and the Doggie Olympics (August 4). Go party with your pet!
