World Record Run

World Record Run

As if the heat isn’t a good enough excuse, here’s another reason to get out of bed early to run: you can set a world record on Tuesday, July 10. No, the record won’t be your mile time (no offense), but rather the number of people who show up at the Forum MKT trailhead.

You see, every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 a.m. people gather here to run one of many established routes with various distance options. New people join (aka show up – it’s free!) this group throughout the year, but the biggest push for new faces comes every July at the “World Record Run.” The regulars invite everyone they know (and everyone they don’t know – yet, which is why I’m posting this blog), regardless of running ability. Runners and walkers can tackle distance options that range between 3 and 8 miles. It doesn’t matter if you can cover a mile in 6 minutes or 16 minutes -- there will be someone your pace to work out with, and who knows, maybe you’ll be back on Thursday morning for more?

“If you’ve ever run or thought about running, this group is for you, and July 10 is the day to check us out,” says organizer Kimberly Earnest. “Join us and get your exercise done before the heat sets in and life obligations pile up. Everyone is welcome.”

After the run, participants can enjoy pancakes, door prizes and the chance to meet new walking and running partners.
