The Journey From Engagement To The Aisle
The Search For THE Dress
Omigosh, finding the dress. I’ve tried on so many dresses. I went online and looked at a website … with 309 dresses. Every shape and style imaginable. I made a list of ones I might want to try on. In the end, there were 38 dresses on my list and they didn’t follow any certain style or design. There were sleeveless dresses and dresses with straps, a-lines and bubble skirts, no trains and long trains. There was no lace, no bows, no flowers, and limited beading. So, that at least was a start.
I sent my list to six shops and asked which ones they had. I assumed this would be simple … I mean, don’t they keep inventory? But, I swear they must have had to go through every dress looking at tags. It really seemed to be a challenge.
Mom and I went on the inaugural shopping trip to get an idea of what I liked. Believe it or not, I liked the first several I tried on. I’ve heard “You’ll just know it’s the one when you try it on,” and I was thinking several of them could be the one. But, once I looked at the pictures, I started picking them apart.
Going into Day 2, I was optimistic. Day 1 had helped me figure out what I was looking for and I was very definite about certain things. One shop had assured me they had almost all the dresses in the line I was looking at, so I was confident that’s where I’d find it. But, alas, I think they fibbed. However, I don’t know for sure, because I couldn’t even see any dresses until the saleslady brought what she wanted me to try on out of the secret hiding place in back. I was not impressed with this.
I only tried on about four from my list and after the eighth, which the saleslady thought was the one, she decided not to bring me anymore. I was not convinced … there were things about it I really liked and it was flattering, but a cross between it and one other is the dress I am looking for. So, the quest continues. I didn’t pick the first husband-to-be candidate that came along either and that seems to have worked out pretty well, so I’m just going to keep looking!
