Burlap & Blue Pumpkins

Burlap & Blue Pumpkins

An elegant country wedding…that’s what we’re going for. I’ve been in a bit of a planning lull—nothing big to report, but a few small advances have been made. I met with the florist for the first time at the reception site so she could get a feel for the venue. (Dad has already managed to fill his new building up. He’s going to have a job just emptying it!) I wish I could send out the invitations now and request RSVPs by mid-July! So much regarding the layout depends on the count and I just want to have it all lined out — now.

We’ve decided on ivory table linens with chocolate brown napkins. The aqua accents will be provided by the old bluish-green glass jars and insulators. The jars will hold cream-colored flowers and the insulators will hold votives. I’m also hoping to hang some of both from the rafters with lights, but this may require an even more extensive search than I was already planning. Burlap table runners will complete the rustic look.

From the beginning, Leigh Anne has been suggesting adding white pumpkins to the mix. Being a fan of them myself, I asked my dad (who’s quite the pumpkin grower), to add white to his usual mix, so cross your fingers for a good pumpkin crop. So far, they are requiring quite a bit of irrigation. While shopping for seeds, mom came across seeds for aqua-blue pumpkins. I am not kidding. The one on the front is exactly the same color as the old glass jars. I will have to report on them later.

My first shower will be held in conjunction with the Peuster Fourth of July Celebration. I’m really looking forward to it, because in a way it seems like quite the milestone — the first in a series of events leading up to the big day. Come on October 20!
