Ideas And Resources For Mid-Missouri Parents

Mom's Day Out

Mom's Day Out

All moms need a break sometimes. Between shuffling the kids to and from various activities, making dinner, checking homework and keeping up with the laundry, Mom gets tired. So, it’s no surprise that a girls’ night out sounds fabulous to any hard working mother! The idea of eating dinner in peace without a child needing to use the bathroom mid-meal is a luxury that doesn’t often find its way into a mom’s planner.

I recently had a fabulous modified “girls’ night out” with a few wonderful co-workers. It's worth mentioning to other moms who might need a two hour break from the normal hustle and bustle of the day. Our lunch excursion brought us downtown to Noodles & Company where we each ordered and shared a regular-sized portion off the menu. Our meal began with a tossed salad with Balsamic dressing and was followed by a tour of Noodles & Company’s menu. Our group was able to sit back, relax and enjoy multiple different dishes served by the wait staff while we enjoyed fun, stress-free conversation in a great atmosphere. Though we didn’t choose to sit on the patio due to weather, the outdoor area was inviting and we decided to return and enjoy that on a better day.

We each enjoyed tasting a variety of dishes that make my tastebuds come to life just thinking about them. The first was Penne Rosa: penne noodles covered in a spicy tomato cream sauce with mushrooms, spinach, tomato and wine and topped with parmesan. Second, we enjoyed Pesto Cavatappi: curly pasta with basil pesto, garlic, mushrooms, tomato, a wine cream sauce and parmesan. The third was Japanese Pan Noodles, which are caramelized noodles in a sweet soy sauce with broccoli, carrots, Asian sprouts, black sesame and cilantro. My two favorite dishes were the Wisconsin Mac & Cheese, a grown up twist on the everyday dish, and Buttered Noodles with parmesan and Italian seasonings. Both were simple yet exquisite.

If we had actually had dinner I would have chosen to top it all off with a bottle of wine. Regardless, we had a completely relaxing lunch with no distractions and a lot of fun. It’s something every mom should do once a month. It was a rejuvenating experience that enabled me to step back from my normal routine and enjoy being a woman.
