A new smoothie shop, Blenders: Smoothies + Juice, opens August 5 in downtown Columbia at 308 S. Ninth St. On July 6, Kieran McBride, owner and manager of Blenders: Smoothies + Juice, held a summer sample event to try out Blenders’ one-of-a-kind drinks.

At the summer sample, I had the chance to try out Blenders’ tasty smoothies and original customer-submitted recipes before the final menu is selected. Once open in August, Blenders will offer smoothies, juices and food. You’ll even be able to build your own drink combinations. Every drink is made-to-order, so the smoothies are easily customizable to what you want.

When McBride decided to open Blenders, he was inspired by how active Columbians are. McBride views smoothies as a great source of quick, healthy energy for people who are busy working, going to school, or working out.

“We're excited to give something back to the city by providing the energy people need to keep the place running” McBride says.

You can try Blenders’ smoothies and juices for free from Monday, August 5 through Thursday, August 8 while employees finish their training during limited hours. Blenders will begin full, regular business hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Friday, August 9.

“Our biggest goal is to make delicious, healthy drinks that people love,” McBride says, “We want Blenders to be a place where people can come in, fill up on good food and get back to doing the things that make them happy.”
